Stepping away from renting to settle down with his family, Leicester Tigers academy graduate and first team player Harry Wells is enjoying life as a homeowner in Kibworth, thanks to Help to Buy.
The Lock (26) – who has been renting since the age of 18 – has taken the first step on the property ladder with his wife Lilla (24) and twin boys Oscar and Theodore (4) at David Wilson Homes’ development in the village.
Harry, originally from Peterborough, said: “With my career, we’ve rented a few different houses in the city, and nothing has really felt like home until now. It’s so important to be settled and, after moving to Leicester at a young age, having a home of our own makes my connection to the city even more special.
“We used Help to Buy, which enabled us to move into a bigger property quicker. The boys now each have their own room which is a real benefit and it’s great to come home to see my family’s smiling faces.
“Kibworth was always the place for us as our boys are at the nearby pre-school and we’re close to both Market Harborough and Leicester. It’s just a really lovely village with a lot of green space close to home.”
Harry and Lilla, a Mobile Beauty Therapist from Long Whatton, chose a Hadley style home; a three bedroom property ideal for growing families.
On the design of the home, Harry added: “The overall layout is fantastic and we were impressed with the quality, particularly the kitchen and dining area because it’s a good social space for us as a family.
“A new build home was something we were always considering as it’s a home we could put our own mark on, rather than inherit someone else’s vision.”
The property also features ample storage space and a generously-sized garden, which gives Wallace, the family’s Cockalier, a chance to stretch his legs.
It was important for Harry and Lilla to ensure their move was as comfortable as possible for both of their children but Oscar in particular, who lives with autism.
Harry continued: “Tara, the Sales Adviser, and the whole team at Kibworth were brilliant and what’s normally a stressful experience was straightforward for us, and we felt well looked after.
“We knew people who had bought with David Wilson Homes previously and from walking into the show homes at Kibworth ourselves, we just felt a good vibe.”
With the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, it’s a simple step onto the property ladder as buyers can secure a new home with just a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage.
Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to hear Harry, Lilla, Oscar and Theodore have settled into their new home and are enjoying their new lifestyle at our Kibworth development.
“A close-knit community is growing here and the local area has a lot to offer first time buyers and growing families alike.”
Harry’s total of 29 appearances for the Leicester Tigers during 2018/19 was the highest by any member of the first-team squad.
Based in Kibworth, he can enjoy the swift commuter links on the doorstep to comfortably reach Welford Road on match days and training sessions in Oadby.
For families setting down at the Fleckney Road development, there are Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ schooling options in the community and opportunities to explore Foxton Locks’ canals and footpaths.
