The Upper Crust at Preston Station has had plans for a significant refurbishment approved by the city council. The bakery and coffee shop on platform four – the departure point for West Coast Mainline trains to London – will undergo changes after special permission was granted due to the station building’s Grade II-listed status.
Some of the historic features integral to that status are located near the bakery’s base, close to the waiting room. Earlier this year, parent company SSP UK Limited submitted plans for what it termed a “non-structural internal fit out”, aimed at enhancing customer experience and introducing new products.
This is part of a “new brand concept” being rolled out across all railway branches of the nationwide chain. In their approval report, planning officers noted that
