UK Mask Force donates over 6,000 pieces of PPE to Midlands health facilities

A group of medical, military and procurement experts have come together to donate over 6,000 pieces of PPE to Derbyshire and Nottingham health facilities.

UK Mask Force volunteers along with their ambassadors, the boxing trainer Peter Fury and the James Barney Foundation, a worldwide Christian relief organisation, delivered the PPE on Wednesday, to Derby Covid Red Hub located at Derby University’s Kedleston Road site, Park Medical Practice in Chaddesden and Wren Nursing Home, Nottingham.

With concerns growing over PPE shortages on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus, the not-for-profit organisation has secured and donated the items in just a few short weeks.

William Raulston-Saul, director said: “Many are concerned for NHS staff and patients and a lot of ‘fake’ equipment is being ordered from overseas.

“With many contacts in the medical, military, logistics and procurement professions, we wanted to deliver a coordinated response to help hospitals, nursing homes and care providers with the right quality and quantity of PPE.

“Just £10 covers the manufacture and transportation of up to sixteen surgical masks or five high spec FFP2 masks. So, we need the public and businesses to donate and help our heroes on the frontline. We cannot thank those who have already got behind this incredible cause enough.”

Heather Simpson, managing partner at The Park Medical Practice said: “Having the correct PPE is vital. It gives staff confidence and reassurance them that we are doing everything we can to protect them, their families and patients.

“I commend the work of UK Mask Force in supplying our health workers with the right equipment. It is saving lives and making a real difference. We are so grateful.”

Dr Abraze Khalique, medical advisor at UK Mask Force added: “One of the biggest faults is poorly fitting masks. But we have people throughout the supply chain and can confidently source masks compliant with all relevant legislation. Prevention is critical in reducing unnecessary deaths and overcrowding in ICUs.”

“We will continue to source as much PPE as we can and give it to those who need it most locally.”
