Five star housebuilder Barratt Homes recently welcomed South West Bedfordshire MP, Andrew Selous, to one of its developments to see the new safety measures that have been put in place following the Coronavirus pandemic.
Andrew visited Clipstone Park in Leighton Buzzard, to see work commence on its newest phase and witness first-hand the work implemented by the housebuilder to ensure Bedfordshire homebuyers can move home and staff can work on site safely.
The MP met with Simon Francis, Managing Director of Barratt Homes North Thames, to learn more about the range of safety measures and new working procedures which meet or exceed government, industry and public health agency advice.
The measures include protective Perspex screens, retractable barriers, strict social distancing and, where necessary, personal protective equipment (PPE), plus intercom systems and door locks to enable customers to engage with sales teams before entering offices.
During the Leighton Road tour, he was also able to see how Bedfordshire homebuyers will now be able to reserve a new property after meeting with Sales Director Karly Williams, Sales Manager Raveena Cox and Sales Adviser XXXXX.
Andrew met with the site team to see how construction work is being carried out with the new measures before visiting the newest phase to ceremoniously lay the first brick to mark work commencing.
Commenting on his visit, Andrew said: “It was excellent to see construction taking place in a very responsible socially distanced way. Housebuilding is a real driver for the economy and I was pleased to learn about a lot of the local employment on the site.
“It was very good to see a contribution of £16.8 million towards much needed local infrastructure from this development. I was also pleased to have the opportunity to talk about new methods of environmentally friendly construction.”
Whilst at the development, Andrew was delighted to launch the housebuilder’s community time capsule, which will capture ‘life during lockdown at Clipstone Park’, by contributing a Parliamentary Hansard report of the Oral Questions he responded to in the House of Commons on the 25th June. This also included a copy of the Times Parliamentary sketch of the proceedings published the next day.
The housebuilder recently invited residents at the development to bring in their own contributions and fill out activity booklets to put in the Clipstone Park time capsule which represent and capture their life during an uncertain time.
Simon Francis said: “As we have now carefully re-opened our sales centre following the government’s decision to unlock the property market, we were delighted to show Andrew the new measures in place to help people move home.
“As a responsible homebuilder, the safety of our employees and customers remains our number one priority, and as demonstrated during the visit, we have adapted our sales and site office to accommodate the social distancing guidelines.”
Clipstone Park has already created a thriving community of starter and family on the outskirts of the beautiful rural town of Leighton Buzzard.
