RIBA Recognises Trent Basin as Exemplar Housing Project

Posted on October 1, 2019 Comments Off on RIBA Recognises Trent Basin as Exemplar Housing Project

Nottingham waterside development, Trent Basin has been recognised as an exemplar housing project in the East Midlands by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).

Trent Basin, a new neighbourhood by Blueprint, which forms part of the ground breaking regeneration of Nottingham’s Waterside, on the River Trent, was acknowledged as a leading housing development within the East Midlands, delivering exceptional design and architecture.

The recognition is part of an initiative by RIBA to identify and promote good design for medium scale new housing across the East Midlands. It takes into consideration durability, functionality, interior, location and the aesthetic quality of each development.

As part of the judging process, representatives from RIBA conducted a tour of Trent Basin to consider Blueprint’s approach to the growing neighbourhood. They viewed the recently launched Phase Two show home and plots for sale, recognising the excellent collaboration between Trent Basin’s award-winning developers, Blueprint and architects, Marsh Grochowski and Sarah Wigglesworth Architects.

Combining city life with waterside living, the team has placed people at the centre of their design philosophy. They created public spaces that prioritise people over cars, integrating spaces to meet and enjoy the tranquillity of the river, while providing flexible, unique homes that are full of natural light. Trent Basin also incorporates low energy principles at every turn. The sustainable architecture takes its inspiration from the homes that line the canals of Amsterdam and river paths, public realms and unique roof terraces have been designed to provide panoramic waterside views.

As part of its RIBA recognition, Trent Basin’s exemplar housing design will be showcased to an audience of developers, housebuilders, local authorities, housing associations, and architects, as part of the Love Architecture Festival in Leicester on 23rd October 2019.

Sam Veal, Chief Executive of Blueprint, said: “From the very start, our approach to this exciting new neighbourhood has been about ensuring that every aspect of the design is geared towards creating a thriving community, where our customers can enjoy an excellent standard of sustainable living in a calming riverside location.

“We are delighted to see the high-quality design of Trent Basin recognised once again. It is a true testament to the hard work of the teams involved. We are proud of our ethos and vision for this important sustainable neighbourhood and its contribution to high quality living and public realm in the City.”

Mike Baulcombe, Director at RIBA East Midlands said: “Trent Basin is a bold brownfield development that has breathed new life into this somewhat hidden part of Nottingham’s historic waterside. The RIBA East Midlands Housing Group’s intention through this project is to highlight best practice in developer and architect led housing design, sustainability, landscaping and build quality. We are pleased to say that Trent Basin ticks all of those boxes and are happy to announce it as one of our three East Midlands exemplar housing developments.”
