Members of Soaring Dragons, Dragon Boat Racing Club are one step nearer to their dream of having a new boat thanks to a donation from a regional builder.
Persimmon Homes North Midlands has donated £500 to Soaring Dragons as part of its Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.
The club welcomes members of all ages and paddling abilities, from the complete novice to competitive racers, to compete together as one team against teams from all over England.
Paul Freemantle, of the club, said: “We are delighted to receive such a wonderful donation from Persimmon Homes North Midlands, and cannot thank them enough for their support.
“We are in desperate need of replacing our old boat, so the donation really helps us, as without a new boat the club would be unable to train or compete in the national league.
“So far, we have raised funds through raffles, grants as well as training sessions for scouts and businesses. The donation from Persimmon Homes will take us one step closer to our £7134 fundraising goal.”
Nadine O’Dowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “It’s great to see this money going towards such a worthwhile cause. The club is a vital part of the community and is wonderful to see that they are all working hard for a successful future.
“We always receive so many applications for our Community Champions scheme. I really encourage any charities and groups looking for funding to apply to the scheme for their chance to receive up to £1,000 match-funding for their own cause.”
