A site manager who is building new homes on a housing development in Oadby has won a highly respected industry award.
Chris Smith, 40, who is responsible for construction work at Bellway’s Stoughton Park development, has received a Quality Award in the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) Pride in the Job competition.
The winners of the awards were announced after a year-long judging process by officials from the NHBC.
The Pride in the Job Awards were established over 40 years ago to recognise the achievements of truly exceptional site managers, with the intention of driving excellence in the industry.
Chris, who lives in Market Bosworth, has worked on Bellway’s Stoughton Park development off Gartee Road since work began 18 months ago.
This is the second award that Chris and the team at Stoughton Park have achieved this year, following the national Waste Segregation Management award given to the site by Eco Waste in March.
Chris said: “To be given this award in recognition of mine and my team’s hard work at Stoughton Park over the last 12 months is really pleasing. I have been on this site from the very start, and even had a hand in laying the very first roads and sewers back in January 2022. Fast forward to the present, and we have already welcomed over 20 residents on site, which goes to show just how far we’ve come here in such a short space of time.
“It has been a long journey to get the site to where it is now, but it has definitely been worth it. We are well aware of the responsibility we have to deliver homes of the highest quality, and I am delighted that this has been officially recognised by the NHBC.
“The most satisfying part of my job is seeing the customer put their key in the door and seeing the look on their faces as they enter their new home for the first time. Buying a property is one of the ‘big five’ in life, and it is a genuine honour for me to be able to build these homes at Stoughton Park, and to play a role in such a momentous occasion in the lives of all our customers.”
Lee Wilkinson, Construction Director at Bellway East Midlands, said: “For our site managers, winning an NHBC award in any year is rewarding, but this year has been a special achievement in such challenging circumstances, ensuring our building sites are kept to the highest standards we set ourselves at Bellway, and keeping our customers and local residents happy with the work we are doing across those sites.
“Chris and his team have consistently demonstrated their excellence in delivering new homes to our customers over the past 12 months and Bellway is extremely proud of and grateful for their efforts, resulting in the Quality Award they have been deservingly given by the NHBC. We would wish Chris all the very best for the next stage of the NHBC awards this year, as they progress to the Seal of Excellence phase of judging.”
Bellway is building 221 homes at Stoughton Park. A range of three, four and five-bedroom houses are currently available, with prices starting from £338,000.
