Two pupils at Hugglescote Primary School in Leicestershire have won a competition organised by David Wilson Homes to design their own version of the famous Hugglescote bear statue.
The homebuilder is currently building homes at its Grange View development and, as part of its efforts to engage with local communities, David Wilson Homes set the pupils at Hugglescote Primary School the challenge of putting their own spin on the statue’s design.
Located in the centre of the community, the sculpture commemorates the legend of the village’s name which is told by a mosaic situated nearby.
Susan James, a Sales Adviser at Grange View, presented winners Emily (9) and Natasha (5) with a Build-a-Bear gift voucher each, accompanied by Head Teacher Paul Driver at the statue.
Paul said: “We were delighted to be involved in the competition to design a new bear for Hugglescote as we are always looking for opportunities to engage the children with our local community.
“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for offering the children the chance to be involved.”
Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We were very impressed with the entries we received from the pupils of Hugglescote Primary School and we’d like to thank all of the children who took part in our competition.
“It was extremely difficult to choose the winners, but we’d like to congratulate Emily and Natasha on their creative designs which stood out to us.
“Competitions such as these give us a great opportunity to involve the local community, and it’s always as enjoyable for us as it is for the children participating.”
