Hats off to Leicestershire Pupils Raising Awareness for Brain Tumour Charity with David Wilson Homes

Posted on March 30, 2020 Comments Off on Hats off to Leicestershire Pupils Raising Awareness for Brain Tumour Charity with David Wilson Homes

Pupils at Fleckney Primary School are set to raise awareness for Brain Tumour Research and celebrate Wear a Hat Day (27th March) from home following an activity with David Wilson Homes earlier in the month.

Brain Tumour Research is the only UK charity dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. It is currently developing a network of experts in sustainable research and is influencing the Government and larger cancer charities to invest more nationally in the fight against brain tumours.

Wear A Hat Day encourages people to wear hats to draw attention to the head, reminding everyone of a disease that is often invisible while raising funds for research and awareness of living with a brain tumour.

David Wilson Homes Site Manager Steve Curtis visited the school on Tuesday 10th March to make the donation of 60 children’s hard hats and art supplies for the pupils to decorate their own hat and take home to wear on the day.

Tanita Mistry, community fundraising manager at Brain Tumour Relations in the Midlands, said: “We are hugely grateful for the support of David Wilson Homes this Wear A Hat Day. Together we can find a cure.

“Our vital research is at risk because of the national emergency we are now in, and we are in danger of losing the great progress we have made. We need people to support Wear A Hat Day more than ever and are urging people to look at our website, where we have come up with some ideas for people to help us on Wear A Hat Day from the comfort of their own home.”

Tim Leah, Headteacher at Fleckney Primary School, said: “We are very happy to learn about and support this very worthy charity in conjunction with David Wilson Homes.

“Our year 1 children were very excited to take part in the art activities and especially to have the opportunity to wear the hard hats.”

As part of its efforts to engage closely with local schools and communities, David Wilson Homes made the contribution to Fleckney Primary School which is close to its Fleckney Fields development.

The pupils can now wear the hats when they visit the development with David Wilson Homes later in the year, as well as the high-visibility vests donated by the homebuilder to the school for Walk to School Month.

Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “With brain tumours killing more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, we are delighted to help bring further awareness of this fantastic charity.

“As a leading homebuilder, we aim to engage with and support local communities and charities as much as possible and we hope this activity has allowed the pupils at Fleckney Primary School to have fun while learning about a worthwhile issue.”
