Marking the end of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Building Buddies Award, the staff and pupils of Godmanchester Bridge Academy in Cambridgeshire have enjoyed a ceremonious trophy presentation to draw the academic year long project to a close.
A number of pupils were recruited by the local homebuilders back in September to be part of the bespoke scheme and the pupils recently enjoyed an award ceremony to celebrate being the first school in the county to complete the assignment.
Split into four quarters, the pupils learned about the construction process in great detail as they took park in a range of challenges at the school, located on the Barratt and David Wilson Homes development Romans’ Edge on Bearscroft Lane.
The four tasks guided the pupils along the homebuilding procedures, covering planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.
Godmanchester Bridge Academy was presented with its coveted Building Buddies Award, in addition to individual trophies for the task winners – Oliver, Chloe and Joshua, with Chloe claiming the prize for task two and three.
Rick Smith, Assistant Head at Godmanchester Bridge Academy, said: “We were delighted to be asked to take part in the Building Buddies Award and would like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for this opportunity.
“Our pupils have thoroughly enjoyed getting creative with each of the tasks and learning more about the housebuilding industry.”
Furthering the writing and artistic abilities of the pupils, the Building Buddies Award has enabled those taking part to name and promote their own development, whilst highlighting site safety and wildlife-friendly features considered at each Barratt and David Wilson Homes development.
John Dillon, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “It’s been wonderful to see the pupils’ knowledge of the construction industry grow with each activity of the Building Buddies Award.”
Adam Knight, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Cambridgeshire, added: “We strive to work closely with the next generation of homebuilders and we hope to have encouraged the pupils of Godmanchester Bridge Academy to consider a career in construction.”
