Food Packaging Giant Set To ‘Protect The NHS’ With Innovative Visor

Posted on April 23, 2020 Comments Off on Food Packaging Giant Set To ‘Protect The NHS’ With Innovative Visor

A leading provider of supermarket packaging has created an innovative protective visor in just 24 hours, which it says could be rolled out to medical staff on the Coronavirus frontline.

Nottingham-based food packaging manufacturers The Wilkins Group have been working around the clock after multiple enquiries and a keen sense to help saw staff create face protectors, which can be rolled out on a mass scale.

Justin Wilkins, sales and marketing director at the firm, which recently won the title of Midlands Family Business of the Year, said: “Our team were approached by the Trentside Medical Group in Netherfield to see if we could help them with masks or visors.”

After the initial enquiries, the team set to work to initially source the polyester, cardboard and antimicrobial varnish material required to turn the protectors around, and within a few hours, the team had produced a design, which medical staff at the local surgery were impressed with.

The prototype is now being discussed with medical staff at the Trentside Medical Group, and if successful, the packaging giant has the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of visors each week.

Justin added: “We are so proud of all our staff here at The Wilkins Group, who have pulled together through what is a very difficult time for everyone. We are all working tirelessly to keep our customers supplied with food packaging products, and also to do it safely.

“These new face protectors will be issued to all of our own staff, as well as helping not only our customers protect their employees but the fantastic NHS staff.”

The visors are printed with a special antimicrobial coating and feature an adjustable universal one size fits all strap that locates around the back of the head. The Window is optically clear for maximum visibility and allows glasses to be worn underneath.

The Colwick-based company is now striving to make contact with NHS procurement managers and those higher up in Government, to see if the team can help on a previously unimaginable scale.
