Leading Leicestershire homebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £1,000 to the South Wigston Shedders, a Men’s Shed group, as part of its Community Fund scheme.
The developer is currently building a range of three to five bedroom homes at Wigston Meadows and has selected the charity due to its base being close to the development.
The South Wigston Shedders are members of The UK Men’s Sheds Association, a national charity offering support and guidance to individuals while raising awareness of the Shed movement which incorporates over 500 Men’s Sheds groups across the UK. The groups are supported by the charity and organised and run independently by members.
The scheme aims to empower and strengthen local communities while reducing loneliness and isolation, particularly in older men, through providing a place where regular social interaction can take place, often while completing woodwork, metalwork or other similar activities.
Steve Gammage, Assistant Site Manager at Wigston Meadows, presented Rob Elliott, the organiser of the South Wigston Shedders, with the cheque for the donation at the group’s Albion Street base.
About the donation, Rob said: “We would like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for this donation. It will make a real difference to those who attend our group and will allow us to continue helping people from the local community.”
Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said: “We are delighted to make our Community Fund donation to the South Wigston Shedders Group.
“As a leading homebuilder, we aim to engage with and support the local areas around our developments as much as possible and by making this donation we hope to help the South Wigston group to continue their fantastic work in the community.”
