Leading Lancashire homebuilder, David Wilson Homes North West has donated £500 of cleaning and care products to Alsager and District Foodbank to assist the organisation throughout the pandemic.
Based in Alsager, close to the housebuilder’s Scholars Place development on Hassall Road, the foodbank has been running since 2013 as part of the Alsager Community Centre and Church.
Tracey Abbot, Alsager and District Foodbank Co-Ordinator, said: “Our operation was started by a member of the Alsager Community Church who felt the need to help those in crisis. During our early years we weren’t needed as much, but over the past four years the need for our services has grown significantly.
“We have been overwhelmed by the donations we have had from all parts of the community, and we really appreciate the £500 donation from David Wilson Homes. It has given us the chance to help households that may be struggling to keep themselves and their homes clean during the pandemic.”
The foodbank has helped 404 households since 2017, including 115 households so far this year. They estimate that 496 adults and 413 children have benefited from their services.
Philippa Stewart, Head of Sales at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a five star housebuilder, we like to lead the way, not only in the homes that we build but in the support and contributions to the local communities in which we build.
“Alsager and District Foodbank has done a fantastic job at supporting multiple adults and children throughout the pandemic, providing items that are essential for their basic needs. We’re delighted that we could help them in this tough time.”
Tracey continued: “The government has consistently reminded us about the importance of cleanliness and washing our hands, however not everyone can afford the products required to do this.
“Unemployment has also increased throughout the pandemic, and we want to assist those actively looking for work to look clean and presentable in what could be a crucial interview to change their circumstances.
“We are extremely grateful to David Wilson Homes, and we’d like to thank them for helping us meet our community’s extra needs in these unprecedented times.”
