100 undergraduates visit Nottingham construction site

Posted on February 18, 2020 Comments Off on 100 undergraduates visit Nottingham construction site

Construction management students from Nottingham Trent University were given an invaluable insight into construction by visiting Vistry Partnerships’ development at Wilford Fields.

Earlier this week saw over 100 Undergraduate students from Nottingham Trent University visited Vistry Partnerships’ site Wilford Fields, Nottingham. The site which will see 174, two, three, four and five bed homes for sale in West Bridgford is being built in partnership with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing.

The fully interactive ‘behind the scenes’ tour gave the students the opportunity to witness the latest construction technologies, health and safety techniques and construction management approaches being implemented by the site team. It also allowed the students to apply skills they are currently learning in a vocational setting.

This type of immersive experience is invaluable for inspiring young people to pursue a full-time career in house building after graduating or to progress their studies to the next level.

Students were introduced to several supply chain partners. As experts in their field, they were on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the different skills, trades and processes involved in building a new home.

Lisbeth Banner, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing’s Head of Delivery, commented: “MTVH is committed to transforming lives and communities through affordable social housing, and we’re excited that this project has contributed to the learning and development of the Nottingham Trent University students. We hope that their visit has inspired them and has given them a glimpse of what they can achieve.’

Andy Reynolds, Managing Director, Vistry Partnerships East Midlands commented: “This is the second time we have hosted Nottingham Trent University students at our Wilford Fields development. The time they spend on site allows them to see first-hand the things they learn about in lectures and to ask questions. We are proud that we can work closely with the university to give students the opportunity to visit a live site in a safe environment and provide what will have been a rewarding experience for them.

Eamonn Colbert, Construction Management Course Leader at Nottingham Trent University commented: “Site visits like this are invaluable to our students, as they give a real insight into how housing developments are constructed and allow students to ask questions about the vocational skills needed to work in industry. The experience was a great opportunity for our construction management undergraduates to witness excellent examples of best practice and see the trades in action, as well as engage and network with professionals at the organisation.”
